I've been meaning to try this new pizzeria in Worcester that recently opened up called Flats. It's a hop, skip and a jump from my office, but unfortunately they are not open for lunch, so we headed there for a dinner pizza pie.

Flats has a philosophy that embodies the use of local and organic foods. The flours and tomato sauces are organic, and they source local ingredients whenever they can. They also are supportive of the community, and apparently have set up a tent at the local farmers' market where they sell hummus and pesto.
After much deliberation, we decided on the BBQ Chicken pizza with Vermont cheddar and ricotta.

We waited while it cooked...
... and then the masterpiece arrived. In true Flats style, this Neopolitan-esque pizza had a thin crust topped with piping-hot, flavorful ingredients.
I never order chicken on my pizza, and was skeptical about it from the beginning. Usually pizza chicken is dry and chewy. Not at Flats. This chicken was moist, melty, and the BBQ sauce added a delicious dimension of sweetness to this pie. The star ingredient, however, was the ricotta. I never think to use it on pizza, and the combination of sweet BBQ, savory cheddar, and the unique texture of ricotta made us want to eat the whole pie right then and there.
Using restraint, we took some home in a biodegradable pizza box.
I highly recommend checking this place out for delicious pizza and unique combinations of ingredients. It's only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 5:30 p.m. 'til 2:30 a.m., so plan accordingly (apparently they cater to the college bar crowd!) And if this post prompts you to make pizza at home, don't forget to make it healthy!

Question of the Day: What's your favorite kind of pizza?

That's my bag in your photo :) My boyfriend and I were at the table behind you on Saturday night and he pointed you out taking photos - saying it was something that I would do. Of course I was curious, so i googled and found your blog. I love it and I've added it to my reading list. it's nice to see someone local with a healthy eating focus; so many of the blogs i read are based elsewhere.
ReplyDeletewe went with the BBQ chicken as well - but only on half because we couldn't decide. I have yet to be disappointed by Flats.
and just a heads up - the hours on the web site are confusing but they are open Tues-Wed 5-9PM
and Thu-Sat 5-230AM. lunch hours are coming at the end of the month, i've been told!
