Declare Your (Food) Independence!

As Independence Day weekend is upon us, choose to celebrate your independence food-style. Check out Kitchen Gardeners, a "global community cultivating change" who are committed to getting us red-blooded Americans to source our meals as locally, deliciously, and as sustainably as possible. Here's the challenge, straight from their website:

"Local foods are patriotic, whether you're buying them from producers in your area or growing some of your own. They're good for our local farmers, our economies, our health, and that of the planet. Best of all, they taste great because they're fresh from the soil.
This July 4th, we're asking our nation's first families not only to lead by example but to eat by example by sourcing their meals as locally, deliciously, and sustainably as possible."
Here's what you can do:
Speaking of local foods, I stumbled upon these gold chanterelle mushrooms at my local farmers' market (foraged in Wendell State Forest). Certainly not a supermarket find! It fondly reminded me of my food foraging for dummies class last summer!
Question of the Day: How do you celebrate your independence and freedom? Do you make your statement through food, or a big ol' flag on the back of your pick-up truck?
