San Francisco: Part II: I'm a Farmers' Market Fanatic

Saturday morning brought with it our trip to the San Francisco Farmers' Market. We christened our arrival with Blue Bottle Coffee: a New Orleans-style iced for me, a hot single drip for T.

As a food experimenter, I decided to google "New Orleans-style iced coffee" and came across this recipe for it. I think I'll stick to letting the experts do it, as this recipe seems sort of difficult to do at home! I did find out that the secret ingredient that makes it so good is chicory. Who would have known?

With this delicious coffee came an eggy sandwich from Rose Pistola's brunch stand.

This market includes 100+ vendors from the Bay Area who sell anything from persimmons to potatoes, horseradish to hunks of artisanal cheeses.

We meandered the aisles and crowds; I ended up with a very heavy bag and only a few dollars left in my wallet. I'll be soon posting on my experimentations with these products (Rancho Gordo beans, Happy Girl Kitchen pesto, Blue Bottle Coffee, Massa Organics almond butter... basically anything I could get my hands on that would travel in a suitcase).

This is by far my favorite farmers' markets ever because of all of the great produce they have to offer, and all the delicious samples you can try! Check it out on Saturday mornings and Thursday evenings. You won't be disappointed!

  3. I definitely miss the Ferry Building...and the persimmons! I hope you bought as many as you can possibly carry, because back in Massachusetts they are only available in Whole Foods and cost $4 EACH!!
