Tim brought along a big Le Creuset of summer sangria and a pitcher of pink raspberry lemonade.
I’m always pleasantly surprised by the vast variety of dishes people decide to bring to a potluck.
I saw zucchini bread, old-fashioned green bean casserole, cabbage salad, summer squash casserole, summer salad, a blueberry cake, pecan pie and few others.
My downfall is potlucks. I seem to load up my plate with too many bites of each dish. I’ve come up with some strategies to limit my caloric load when at a potluck:
- Bring something healthy! I attempted to make my contribution healthy by adding fruit, but I could have done better by bringing grilled vegetables, fresh corn on the cob or a heaping fruit salad.
- Take two bites worth of each dish you think looks appetizing. Make sure that half of your plate is filled with vegetable-based items.
- Keep your water glass full. Enjoy the cocktails in moderation (i.e. one sangria and fill the cup with fruit!)
- For dessert, bring along a smaller dish, share with a friend, and follow the “two-bites” rule.
- Enjoy the good company and beautiful weather!
How do you survive a potluck?
